About Breaking New York

Breaking New York is an independent New York City publication. We were founded in 2026 by Elena Marsh, formerly a senior reporter at New York Magazine, on the principle that the city's news should be reported, sourced, and dated — not aggregated, summarized, or filed three days late.

Our beats are politics, real estate, transit, business, culture, and food. We cover the City Council the way it deserves to be covered — meeting by meeting — and we pay equal attention to Albany, the boards of the major cultural institutions, the MTA, and the city's restaurant economics. We do not publish sponsored content. Where any commercial relationship exists with a subject, it is disclosed in the article.

We publish daily and serve a New York audience of working professionals, civic-minded readers, and the operators, journalists, and policymakers who actually move the city. For corrections, story tips, or to write to the editor, please use the contact page.
