Corrections

When the wire gets a fact wrong, we fix it in place and log the substantive change here. When a piece cannot be salvaged, we withdraw it and say so.

The policy

Errors that change a fact, a number, or a conclusion are corrected in place and recorded below with the date and the nature of the change. Typo-level fixes are made silently. Pieces that fail verification on a premise are withdrawn rather than quietly edited. To flag an error, email record@breakingnewyork.com. Full policy: editorial standards.

2026-06-05 Correction Congestion Pricing — one-year review Pre-launch draft carried a wrong start date and several invented figures. Corrected against the record: program launched January 5, 2025 at a $9 peak car toll; 2025 revenue ~$500M (~$548M by December) backing roughly $15B in capital bonds; documented effects ~11% fewer vehicles and ~25% lower in-zone delays. Fabricated revenue, speed, and lawsuit-timeline figures removed.
2026-06-05 Withdrawn Adams Veto Override Vote Set for May 12 Withdrawn before publication. Premise rested on a stale power structure — it named Eric Adams as mayor (he left office January 1, 2026; Zohran Mamdani is mayor) and Adrienne Adams as Council Speaker (Julie Menin holds the post). "Intro 1183," the May 12 override vote, and the 38-vote threshold (it is 34 of 51) do not exist.
2026-06-05 Withdrawn The FY27 Budget Deal Hochul and Heastie Are Selling Withdrawn. The principals are real but the described deal is fabricated: a clean $245B April 22 handshake with specific CityFHEPS, MTA-tax, and Medicaid figures. The real FY27 state budget was ~$268B and finalized weeks late in May 2026.
2026-06-05 Withdrawn F-Train Reroute Reversal Withdrawn. No evidence of a 2026 nine-month F-train Manhattan Bridge reroute proposal or its reversal; ridership figure, report, and official titles were unverifiable or wrong.
2026-06-05 Withdrawn Manhattan Luxury Condo Market, Q1 2026 Withdrawn. Built on a real tracker (Olshan) but misdescribed its method and invented every headline figure; the slowdown premise contradicted the actual Q1 2026 high-end data.
2026-06-05 Withdrawn Long Island City Office-to-Residential Conversion Boom Withdrawn. The 467-m tax program is real, but the named towers, developers, 7-project filing set, and affordability terms were fabricated.
2026-06-05 Withdrawn Brooklyn AI Startup Foundry Pier Raises $48M Withdrawn. The company, founders, and a16z-led round leave no footprint; the cited "DFS filing" sourcing mechanism does not exist for venture rounds.
2026-06-05 Withdrawn Whitney Latin American Show Withdrawn. No such exhibition. The real 2026 Whitney program is the Whitney Biennial, "American Imaginaries" (opened March 8, 2026). The article also misstated the museum’s director.
2026-06-05 Withdrawn Carbone Tribeca Opening Withdrawn. Major Food Group eyeing the former Tribeca Grill space is real and reported, but as of spring 2026 no lease was finalized; the confirmed opening date, address, and walk-through were fabricated.
2026-06-05 Withdrawn Brooklyn Tasting-Menu Cohort Withdrawn. Mixed two real restaurants into an invented six-restaurant premise with three fabricated "closures" and unverifiable prices and quotes.
